The development of this online service is part of the state’s campaign to improve efficiency by implementing electronic government services. Hawaii’s official Internet portal, ehawaii.gov, is managed by Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC (HIC). HIC works with state agencies to enable them to conduct state business online and improve public access to government information. Currently, ehawaii.gov has more than 30 online applications that residents, businesses and even visitors may use to conduct business with the state government via the Internet.
Online licensing renewal proves to be popular
The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) Professional and Vocational Licensing Division (PVL) announces a major increase in the number of engineers, architects, surveyors and landscape architects (EASLA) licensed professionals who chose to renew their licenses online.
The statistics show 94 percent of Hawaii’s EASLA licensed professionals took advantage of the department’s online services during the last renewal cycle (March 6-April 30). This online service enabled PVL to reduce mailing and printing costs, by sending paper forms only to licensees who called to request them.
“The 94 percent online renewal rate is nearly triple the rate in 2004, when 37 percent renewed online,” said PVL Licensing Administrator Noe Noe Tom. “It has been very rewarding to see our online renewal rate consistently increase.”
Currently, another group of licensed professionals are eligible to renew their licenses online at www.ehawaii.gov/pvlrenew. This renewal cycle includes: motor vehicle consumer consultants and salespersons; osteopaths; elevator mechanics; massage establishments; massage therapists; nursing home administrators; pest control field representatives and operators; plumbers; psychologists; veterinarians and dispensing opticians. Licensees should check the Web site for details.
All online renewals will be accepted until midnight on June 30, except for dispensing opticians who have until midnight July 1. After that date, renewals will not be accepted online, and renewals must be submitted by mail or in person.
